Why your letter is important
Writing a letter is the best way to let the judge know that you support Kimonti and his request for a new sentence of 25 years.
The judge will consider information provided by Kimonti and the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, as well as members of the community.
Community members do not have a right to testify at the hearing, but you can make your voice heard by writing a letter using the template below. The more you personalize your letter, the better.
If you know Kimonti, let the court know!
What is your relationship to him? How long have you known one another? How have you witnessed his personal growth? How has he impacted your life?
If you don’t know Kimonti personally, let the court know how you heard about him.

Let the court know why justice is served by resentencing Kimonti to 25 years — the time he has already been incarcerated — and why his immediate release is in the best interest of the community.

He has transformed from the teenager he was at the time of his crime to a man passionate about helping others heal, learn, and grow.

That includes the death of Corey Pittman and the impact on his survivors and the community.

If you or your organization plan to offer support to Kimonti in the form of job opportunities, housing, or donations, tell the judge so he knows Kimonti has resources in the community.

Kimonti’s resentencing request is based on his rehabilitation and transformation into the man he is today.

Kimonti’s transformation is motivated by remorse and accountability for the great harm he caused.

Attacks on the court, the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and victims or survivors are not appropriate.

This is not a time to relitigate Kimonti’s case or attack the criminal justice system. You can acknowledge that Kimonti’s original sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole does not serve justice by focusing on Kimonti’s transformation since he was sentenced.

At this time, Kimonti asks that all letters be submitted to his attorney so they can be presented to the court together.
